The Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, whose mission is to provide financial and community support for Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast, announced the recipient of the 2017 Ann Cannon Spirit of Volunteerism Scholarship Award. This yearās Scholarship Award winner is 18-year-old local resident James K. Hoover.
Hoover graduated from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte and plans to attend the University of North CarolinaāCharlotte in the fall. Hoover has been a volunteer with Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast since 2015 for the Faith Community Health Ministry Department. In addition, he was a National Youth Advisor for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and designed and maintains a website for the Charlotte Food Policy Council.
āIt is truly an honor to gift this scholarship each year to a worthy young individual,ā Ann Cannon said. āIt is my philosophy that volunteerism is a priceless commodity that cannot be bought, only earned. James has certainly exemplified the true meaning of this statement at CHS NorthEast. As a recipient, I know he will continue to demonstrate this philosophy in his future path toward higher education in the healthcare profession.ā
The award is used to recognize and support volunteer service among members of the Junior Volunteer Program. The recipients use this scholarship to assist them as they further their educational pursuits following high school graduation.
