Foundation Board Approves $153,223 for 10 Grants in 2018

 

CONCORD, N.C. (June 8, 2018) — The Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, whose mission is to provide financial and community support for Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) NorthEast, and its board of directors reached a major milestone today.  With the approved funding for 10 internal grants totaling $153,223 from its growing endowment fund this year, the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation has now awarded over $1 million in internal grants funding to CHS NorthEast.

“The internal grants program supports innovation and excellence at CHS NorthEast,” said Phyllis Wingate, President of CHS NorthEast. “In a world of constant change, being agile and able to pilot new programs and initiatives is a key part of our success thanks to the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation and their vision with the internal grants program.”

Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation designed the internal grants program, now in its sixth year, to provide funding for equipment, programs and projects enhancing patient care at CHS NorthEast as it strives to be the first and best choice for care in the community.  CHS NorthEast departments are chosen through the internal grants application process with of goal of continuing its mission to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing for all.

A “Grant Patrol,” which was made up of Foundation board members, grants committee members, hospital administration and Foundation staff, surprised each department this morning waving pompoms with the official grant approval letter in tow.

The following CHS NorthEast departments received funding today:

  • Cabarrus College of Health Sciences
  • Cardiac Catheterization Lab
  • Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Wellness Center
  • Clinical Care Management
  • Clinical Education Services
  • Integrative Medicine and Wellness and Post-Surgical 1
  • Lactation Services
  • Outpatient Rehabilitation – Gateway
  • Outreach Services
  • Trauma Services

“Our committee works diligently each year to assess and recommend qualifying grant applications,” said Jessica Tucker, committee chair from the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors.  “We are humbled to be a part of the Northeast Foundation’s mission to support our local hospital through this endowment.”

The Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation internal grants committee is made of up senior staff from the Foundation and six of its board members.  Along with Tucker, the five other committee members from the board are Pam Cain, Ann Cannon, Bill Dusch – Concord City Mayor, Joyce Guarino and Jon Yancey.  The committee met in early May to review the applications and submitted their recommendations for approval to the rest of the board at a meeting on May 21.

The Foundation’s endowment has been invested for the long-term benefit of CHS NorthEast, and will continue to grow year after year.  Continual growth of the endowment fund will provide increased annual internal grants funding.
