Every year for the last 4 years, the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation has provided funding for equipment, programs and projects enhancing patient care at CHS NorthEast through its internal grants program. One of the largest and most impactful grants funded by the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation in 2017 was to the Neuroscience Institute. The new Cabarrus County EMS Telestroke Project is the first of its kind in the country.
It will enable CHS NorthEast neurologists to use telemedicine to examine and triage stroke patients while they are on an EMS ambulance, prior to hospital arrival. It will decrease the door to needle (DTN) times by an estimated 32 minutes for acute stroke patients once they arrive to the Emergency Department. Since the grant was awarded, the group is working together to get the project implemented and installed to make a large impact on our community.
We are so excited about this new technology that will provide more rapid stroke care to the patients in Cabarrus County.
