Caleb Davis is an amazing young man, and an inspiration for the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation, CHS NorthEast and hopefully after reading this, the community. Caleb has overcome so much in his young life, but always has a smile on his face and steals your heart with his kindness. The staff and caregivers at CHS NorthEast made an incredible impact on this 13-year-old during his care here, so much so he decided to give back. Caleb was our cover model for the 37th Annual Foundation Fashion Week and provided a “Letter to the Editor” about giving back.
Letter to the Editor:
I was born premature at 34 weeks, weighed 2 lbs 7 oz. and spent 4 weeks in the NICU. Since my birth, I have spent much time at the hospital with surgeries, procedures, testing and visits for one thing after another. I was given so much love and have received blankets, toys, stuffed animals and more to help keep me calm and comfortable.
I received a Jeff Gordon Bear at 5 years old and that’s when Jeff Gordon became my favorite race car driver. I named the bear Teddy and carried him everywhere I went. I still have him to this day.
I decided I wanted to give back and started my Smiles for Children. Each year in honor of my birthday, I collect crayons and coloring books, Play Doh, Hot Wheels and small stuffed animals to donate to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital. My family and church are my biggest supporters.
My siblings and I love to serve others. My sister Emma, collects diapers and wipes for Main Street Mission of China Grove and my brother Colby, collects water and snacks for our troops at the USO of North Carolina. We also volunteer to feed the homeless and work at the Feed the Hunger Pack-A-Thons among many other opportunities.
I’m honored to be able to share my story and have this privilege to participate in this fundraiser.
