At Atrium Health Cabarrus, Patient Experience is built upon the belief that all healthcare professionals in both clinical and non-clinical environments contribute to patients first, always. Our hospital is recognized nationally for achieving the continuous and measurable improvement of quality care.

Atrium Health Cabarrus and the Cabarrus Healthcare Foundation have established the Sandra M. Benfield Patient Experience Fund to recognize the impact Sandra made during her tenure at Atrium Health Cabarrus as an outstanding advocate for all patients and her endearing empathy for all people.

The Sandra M. Benfield Patient Experience Fund will be utilized to continue the ongoing initiatives and work of the *Atrium Health Cabarrus Patient and Family Advisory Council and its members. The Fund will provide funding for an annual lecture, whose purpose will be to educate Atrium Health Cabarrus healthcare professionals and the community, regarding the latest information on the Patient Experience and the relationship between Patient Experience and quality health outcomes. At the discretion of Atrium Health Cabarrus, the Fund will also be utilized to sustain Sandra’s work of empathy and advocacy for patients.

It is our hope to endow the Sandra M. Benfield Patient Experience Fund by allowing our community, Atrium Health Cabarrus employees, friends and family to generate philanthropic support, so that her legacy and passion will continue in perpetuity.

Sandra exemplified putting patients first always, keeping them safe, promoting their healing, and informing and inspiring them during their care. The positive experience of patients and their families is a vital component of the healing process. Sandra believed that this should be the experience for every person, with every encounter, every time. Her compassion, dedication and caring way exemplified the true heart of our hospital. Through her work, she believed that no matter what position you hold, we should all be empowered to take action in order to keep patients safe and turn all patient experiences into positive ones. We appreciate the support of so many individuals that will allow us to honor Sandra in this way.

Patient and Family Advisory Council members serve on councils, committees, and/or special projects that play a critical role in the development of policies, programs, educational materials, and services that support our commitment to putting the patient first, always.
